The Dayton Flyers played in front of a national audience Wednesday night on ESPNU and came out of the contest with a hard fought 60 – 54 win over the Creighton Bluejays. The win came against a team who last year hosted the Flyers in Omaha Nebraska, and sent Dayton away with a double overtime loss that has haunted them for over a year.
FlyerCountry.com Player of the Game
This win is one that you could have named any one person as player of the game. You could have also just named the whole team as this was truly a “Team” effort, but
Monty Scott
showed leadership and determination with his willingness to hit the big shots needed to send the Flyers to victory. Monty not only hit big shots but also spent most of the 2nd half guarding Nate Funk. Nate did score 9 points in the second half but Monty made him earn every point and also was a big reason that Nate shot 1 of 6 from behind the arc. The lone senior for the Flyers hit on 4 – 6 from the field in the second half and also shot a very impressive 3 of 4 from long range. Monty scored 11 straight points for the Flyers late in the second half. “I'm a senior and that's what I'm supposed to do. I had a lot of open shots and they were falling. But my teammates found me when I was open."
Brian Roberts
had a very good first half making all his shots in the half which also included 3 big shots from behind the arc. Brian was the focus for Creighton in the second half and Brian made adjustments and chose to set his teammates up for better quality shots instead of forcing the issue. Brian responded with 5 assists and 0 turnovers in the 2nd half.
Norman Plummer
joined both Monty Scott and Brian Roberts in double figure scoring for the
Dayton
Flyers. Norman had his second straight impressive performance and continues to get back to the form that he had last year. It seems that Norman is back in basketball shape after missing the first 4 games of the season.
The Dayton Flyers have put themselves in a position to make a run at a very impressive record in non-league play. They face Grambling Saturday night at the Arena. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7pm.
