Nickname: Governors Conference: Ohio Valley Record: 0 – 0 (Last Year 17 -14) RPI: 155 (Last Year) Conference RPI: 20 (Last Year) Pre-Season Conference Poll: 6th Location: Clarksville, Tennessee Students: 9,105 Returning Starters: 3 Coach: Dave Loos Probable Starters G – Derek Wright (JR) G – Fernandez Lockett (JR) F – Drake Reed (SO) F – Kyle Duncan (SO) C – Tomas Janusauskas (JR) The Governors visit UD Arena to take on the Dayton Flyers and will bring the Full-Court Press with them as they will try to make this an up and down game. Dayton will welcome the challenge as they too will begin the season playing in a more up-tempo style, unlike the slow pace style Dayton was forced to play in the past. The Governors return 3 starters from a team that finished 4 -12 on the road last year. This is a young, but big team as they start three juniors and two sophomores; all starters but one are taller than 6-4. The Austin Peay offense starts with Drake Reed as he tries to improve on his impressive freshman campaign. He is the top returning scorer from last year with an average of 8.3 points per game. Junior Fernandez Lockett lead the Governors in rebounding last year with an average of 5.4 rebounds per game. The Governors lose 43% of their scoring from last year with the graduation of Maurice Hampton and Zac Schlader. Incoming freshman guard, Wes Channels out of Memphis, is going to try and off -set the loss in scoring as he will be asked to contribute immediately off the bench. Wes showed that he was more than capable to help lighten the scoring load when he pumped in 13 points off the bench in Austin Peay’s only Exhibition game against Rhodes College in 19 minutes of playing time. Drake Reed was very impressive with his performance against Rhodes as well. The sophomore scored 19 points, hitting 9 of 10 shots Monday night to lead Austin Peay to a 96 – 52 drubbing of Rhodes College. Stay tuned to FlyerCountry.com as Dayton Insider will bring another preview to all the Dayton Fans. |
