There are many times when the city of Dayton is buzzing because of the University of Dayton Athletics. This Labor Day weekend is a great time to start the UD Buzz around town as 4 major UD sports teams have big weekends. All the Dayton fans will be busy trying to catch up with all the excitement around the country for the Dayton Flyers.
Dayton
Flyer Football
Mike Kelly is going to start his 26th season this weekend as his flyers will host Robert Morris Saturday at Welcome Stadium. Kickoff is at 1pm but do not miss all of the pre game excitement in the parking lot.
Kevin Hoyng
will lead the offense and Kevin hopes to have a better season than his record setting season of a year ago. All 11 starters return for the defense this year as they will keep the flyers in every game regardless of how well this young offense plays early in the season.
Dayton Flyer Volleyball
The flyers won its own tournament last weekend in impressive fashion. The Dayton Flyer Classic Champions will have a much tougher task this weekend as they head to
Louisville
to compete in the Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic. The Flyers will face the Louisville Cardinals who are ranked #12 in the nation on Saturday. The Flyers will then take on the #18 ranked
Arizona
Wildcats before closing out the tournament by playing the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. This weekend will tell Coach Horsmon exactly where his flyers stand among the elite teams in the country.
Dayton Women’s Soccer
The Lady Flyers head out to sunny California to participate in the
Pepperdine
Puma Classic. The flyers opened the season last weekend with a 2 – 2 tie against the
Toledo
Rockets. The flyers jumped out to an early 2 – 0 lead but could not hold off the rockets late in the game and had to settle for a draw. The Flyers (0 – 0 – 1) will play the Pepperdine Waves on Saturday at 6:30 pm ET and will then play the University of San Diego Toreros at 2:30 pm ET on Sunday. Let’s hope the soccer team can return from Malibu with a winning record.
Dayton Men’s Basketball
The Flyers basketball team left for Toronto Canada this morning and will prepare to play 2 exhibition games this weekend. Dayton will take on the York Lions Saturday afternoon at 2 pm ET and will return on Sunday to play the Humber Hawks. The team has been practicing for the last 2 weeks and I am sure they are tired of beating each other up and ready to play in a real game. This is going to be a great time for the Freshman to grow as both Basketball player’s and young men. Coach Gregory will play a lot of different combinations and try to learn as much about his team as he can over the next 3 days.
Stay tuned to flyercountry.com as we will update you on what’s happening over the weekend as they open up a very big weekend in Dayton Flyer sports.
