Meadowlands Massacre

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – There would be no repeat of Temple's upset of Duke at the Wells Fargo Center last year. Seth Curry took care of that. The Duke senior guard led four Blue Devils in double figures with 23 points and Duke led by double digits for most of the game on the way to a 90-67 victory at the Izod Center. Duke improved to 9-0, while Temple fell to 6-1.

"Our guys did a good job against a really good team," said Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. "(Fran Dunphy's) team, they're different. They can put five three-point shooters out there. They can break you down, this is the most assists we've given up to any team. We just didn't turn it over and we did a great job on Wyatt. For Wyatt to only get six points is huge.

"Curry did a great job, not just offensively. But when they got close, he put on a spurt."

Unlike last year when the Temple veteran guards dominated Duke, the Owls struggled on the perimeter.

Wyatt couldn't find his stroke from the field for the second straight game, shooting just 3-of-15, including 2-for-10 in the first half. Wyatt, who scored 22 points against the Blue Devils, shot just 2-for-9 in Wednesday night's win over Villanova.

"He didn't play well, he wasn't helping our team," said Dunphy of why Wyatt was on the bench in the second half. "Today wasn't his day."

The Owls found themselves in early foul trouble as with 10:30 remaining in the first half, Will Cummings, Anthony Lee and Jake O'Brien all had two fouls. Duke went to the line 16 times in the first half, hitting 12, while Temple didn't shoot a free throw.

Overall, Duke shot 29 free throws, while the Owls were just 1-for-4 from the line. Dunphy though didn't question the discrepancy.

"These kind of foul discrepancies will happen," said Dunphy. "We're not a great drawer of fouls, and they are. They are as advertised.

"I'm a bit of a knucklehead about watching film of losses, and we'll watch every play of this game."

Freshman Quenton DeCosey continues to see extended playing time. DeCosey, who played his high school ball at St. Joseph's-Metuchen, went 5-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 on three-balls and led the Owls with 13 points in 18 minutes.

Dalton Pepper showed some assertiveness off the bench with two three-pointers in 18 minutes. But those were about it for a day devoid of Temple highlights.

"They're a great team coached by a great guy, and as you could see, they executed," said Scootie Randall, who was held to six points on 3-of-9 shooting. "I've been around for five years. I already know what's going on when we get back. I have to let our guys know what we can accomplish down the road. It's all about how you bounce back."
