SLU Survives Scare from North Texas, 67-63

It was an all-around ugly game, but the Saint Louis Billikens found a way to hold off the North Texas Mean Green 67-63 on Wednesday evening.

St. Louis, Mo -- In all-around sluggish game, the Saint Louis University Billikens topped the visiting North Texas Mean Green 67-63.

Junior guard Jordair Jett scored two of his game-high 17 points on a driving layin with 35 seconds remaining to put the Bills ahead for good.

After a blistering start, which included a 17-2 SLU run, North Texas fought back to close the first half on a 15-5 run to go into the halftime break up 36-34.

In the second half, both teams played particularly poor basketball. Turnovers, fouls, and poor execution marked the final 20 minutes.

With each team's best player out with foul trouble, the game turned into absolute chaos. UNT failed to find its star, Tony Mitchell, over the last four minutes. On the other hand, senior forward Cody Ellis stepped up in Dwayne Evans' absence with 17 points, including 8-for-8 from the free-throw line which was huge down the stretch.

Although it may not have been their best game of the year, the Bills can take several positives away from Wednesday night. Most notably, the play of Cory Remekun was stellar. The senior big man was an imposing force defensively with three blocks and made multiple hustle plays that uplifted his squad.
