SLU Bounces Back vs. Texas A&M

Saint Louis rolled all over Texas A&M on Monday night in Kansas City as it cruised to a 70-49 victory over the Aggies.

Just five days ago, the Saint Louis Billikens were in trouble. An embarrassing home defeat at the hands of Santa Clara exposed several issues.

Fast-forward to Monday night, and those major problems suddenly looked like everyone in attendance witnessed an aberration against the Broncos.

Passes were crisp, cuts were on-point, and the defense was sound. SLU stormed ahead in the early going and ran away with a 70-49 victory on the shoulders of junior forward Dwayne Evans' 21-point performance.

It's been an emotional week for the Bills, as they learned that Rick Majerus would not return to the team. Majerus, who brought the program to new heights, is in California undergoing treatment for a serious heart condition.

Perhaps SLU simply needed a change of scenery. Although home has been so good to them in the past, the Billikens looked like a completely different ball club in Kansas City tonight.

Two days ago, senior forward and captain Cody Ellis told, "You'll see the Real Bills back [on] Monday."

Well, he was spot-on. In front of a nationally-televised audience, the Billikens built a quick 17-7 lead with the help of returnee Cory Remekun, who had missed the previous two games with a knee strain.

In the second half, though, it was all Evans. He played just over five minutes in the first half and picked up two fouls before registering 19 points in the final 20 minutes to cushion the Billikens lead for good against a young Aggies squad.

After a week of difficulties, this veteran team showed some stones. Evans, Remekun, Ellis along with Mike McCall and Jordair Jett put on an offensive and defensive clinic that would've made Majerus proud.

The Billiken faithful may have lost some hope following a disappointing night, but the team responded and showed that it will be a contender in the Atlantic 10 for the long haul. For one night, and quite possibly much longer, normalcy returned to Midtown.
